Seems that the cam position sensor is driven off this same shaft that used to run the dist. on those early motors that did have distributors.
Hope this is the problem, the noise is getting worse and even MORE annoying.
Will keep you posted
Finally got off my duff and fixed it, besides, co-workers were ribbing me to no end !
The noise is from the cam position sensor shaft which extends thru the engine block at the rear of the engine, just behind the intake manifold.
You need to remove the upper intake plenum to gain access to the sensor itself, this needs to be removed to lubricate the sensor shaft.
Unless your a contortionist, it helps to remove the hood also, just 4 bolts holding it on.
Using a 1/4" ratchet, wobble extension and 5.5 mm socket, remove the 2 screws attaching the sensor, using a mirror just to see the rt. side screw helps also.
Once the sensor is out of the way you'll see the shaft itself, I used an oil can containing a mixture of 30 wt. and camshaft lube to squirt a few drops around the shaft.
Of course, the first time you do this will take some time, it took me 2 hours.
Button everything up and you're good to go.....
No more irritating squeak/chirp
