It is always easier to do it right the first time, then a second. Your truck doesn't have an 8.8? And as for 4.88s I don't know. You want something that will keep your engine in your powerband, I can't tell you if 4.88s are what you need for that. 4.11s may get you by just fine. I will have to do some more research to tell you what gearset is best for you. But you should be looking too. So you can justify what you are doing to someone if they ask lol

I'm pretty sure they all do. I wouldn't have the first clue how to ID one other than by tags but I need reference material for that, there is a thread on here that can tell you what you have. At least there was. A big part of being a mechanic is knowing where to look when you don't know lol.

The Ford 8.8 is almost as strong as the 9 inch when done correctly. Check and make sure you have a 8.8 or not. Then make the decision on rear ends. You aren't running a lot of power, and regearing your rear will take stress off it because it isn't having to work as hard to put power down to the ground. Generally, it depends on power and application, the bigger axle can be better. Now mounting 2 1/2 ton rockwells on a suzuki samurai with a stock 4 cyl 1.9l is stupid, you'll never break because you can go anywhere, but in this case the 8.8 is a tank.

They have em with 4.11s as an option but I only know those came in FX4 trucks, Shane would know far better then me. I have 3.73s, and most of the ones I know have those.

That's what I'd look at first, you need to find out more about your axle though first. And browse Craigslist, there is always a deal to be had

Very well could be. They can come loose after quite a few years and miles.
