Okay, so I bought this 3.0L v6 automatic '01 Ranger Edge recently with roughly 135,000 miles on it. I've noticed that when I start driving from a full stop, (like at a stop light) it kinda jerks from first into second. But if I'm driving at a slower speed and and it shifts to second, it does more smoothly, but still a little bit of jerk. Every other shift is smooth like it should. I'm not hard on it at all to save some mpg's if that has anything to do with it. It's been kinda buggin me and I'm just curious if any of y'all have a possible answer or solution?

Could be the clutch slave cylinder going bad.

Oh, lol

Not sure then :/

Is in drive or over drive when this happens or does it do it in both?

I rarely use over-drive, so I don't know. I would expect it to, though.

It could be the torque converter that's going bad they will male a automatic jerk like that.

Mine is 5 speed auto and sometimes jumps hard from 2nd to 3rd, but only when easy on accelerator. If I'm getting on it the slightest bit, shifts like it should.

has the transmission ever been rebuilt? or has the truck ever been tuned with a tuner?

a: if the transmission has been rebuilt, the automatic clutch may have been adjusted so it wont stay engaged as long and shift quicker and harder to save wear on the clutch...

b: if it has been tuned, the shift points and pressure may have been altered....

just my two theories.

I had my transmission rebuilt and the mechanic said he used better quality aftermarket parts and changed something in the clutch so it would shift differently and be better on the clutch...
