Hi,

I just failed my emissions test with very high NOx (double the limit). HC and CO are pretty high too. I've been told that my EGR valve might be bad and cleaning it might help the truck to pass the test. I know that its a dish looking thing but I couldn't find it on my engine. I also couldn't find EGR solenoid or the DPFE sensor. My question is does my ranger even has EGR? And if it doesn't what is the probable cause of high NOx? Thanks.

I don't think your 2004 3.0 has an EGR valve. I wanna say they quit putting those on after the 2002 model year

Thanks a lot for the reply. Today I went back to the same place for a retest and it passed! Only thing different from last time is that I took the highway and also got tested right away. Last time I had to wait 30min before they ran my car on dyno.

Yeah there you go man... It's very good to do a nice drive and have that CAT nice and warm for a test...

And you said they put it on a a dyno?? They didnt hook the computer up to it

yup, here in Ontario they use dyno to test cars. But they will start using OBD2 next year.
