I use a Super Chips programmer. helps with the shifting points, boosts HP, adjusts for larger tires, and eliminates top speed limiter. IMHO its worth it.

yes it helps with fuel mileage, IF you can stay out of the skinny pedal. LOL Yes it gave me about 3 mpg more, alot of that was due to the adjustment for the larger tires. That corrected my odometer.

yes it will help with your milage, but the main gain will be the power. if you are spending $300 to get an extra mile or two to the gallon, it will take you about 2 years to get your money back, so you would be better doing nothing, the chip/programmer is a great tool I love mine SCT superchips

Default Hello

Hi.....just registered. Have a 2006 Ford Ranger, Sport. Great little
truck, but poor milage.
Looking for others who experience poor milage, and
possible mods to help.

looking forward to the forum.

ok first off a chip isnt going to do much yes it can adjust the speedometer for larger tires and change shift points and get rid of your top speed. but by the time you go through your money the power and mileage isnt really worth it in my opnion. for bad gasmileage there are lots of things to do for it like, new plugs, wires, fuel filter, fuel system cleaner, adjust your TPS, correct tire pressure, and last but not least stay off the skinny pledal as much as possible

ok chips are very expensive and very easy to use and the gain is going to be a few hp. nothing like their adds may say. just like your KN intake the only way it adds power is by making your wallet lighter. if you want a power gain polish your TB out make it smooth. next take off your intake and port and polsih it out next you could take your heads off you can port and polsih them too. a chip can only do so much yes it can recal your speedo and change shift points. if you want more power out of your truck how about regearing your axles or axle that will bring you power back to wherever it may have been. but when your truck already has a CAI and you throw on a after market CAI a think its gonna give u more power. if you want a good power jump try upgrading your rocker arms to a roller rocker a 1.6:1 ratio if i remeber correctly thats about a 10hp increase a true increase. and you could also get some underdrive pullies and an efan and those wont give you more power just free up more power
