Red face is there suppost to be a pcv valve?

hey im getting terrible gas milage (10-13) with my 2002 xlt with the 3.0. i changed plugs, wires, fuel filer, oil, and ran injector cleaner. i was inspecting my air filter and took my air outlet tube from the air intake hose and relized someone taped it all up. took the tape off and noticed that the engine ran alittle smoother when i put my thumb over the tube instead of letting it suck in air. i was wondering if there should be a pcv or one way valve somewhere on that hose? its killing me! if thats not the case, anyone have any other ideas to bring my gas milage up to where its supposed to be?

if your talkin about the 90* hose on the back of the intake, i had a tear in mine and it caused my 3.0 to idle rough and have terrible mileage. I went to the dealer and just replaced the entire hose for like 20 bucks or somethin

did the new hose have any kind of a valve in it or did it allow free air flow both ways?

it allowed for free flow, but it was ribbed so that it had more strength than the original, ill try and snap a pic of it tomorrow if i think about it...

Default pcv

I don't know about a pcv but you can't have an open air hose sucking air.....it'll make the engine run lean and then the computer will try to compensate and all heck will happen.......maybe "STL" has a vacume hose diagram of the 3.0 to let you know what you might have......hard to say without actually looking at it...sorry
