Intermittent crank but no start
2005 auto, 114k miles. intermittent crank no start scenario. doesn't matter if the truck has been sitting over night, been off for 10 minutes, or sitting for 8 hours at work in the hot sun. doesn't happen every time, i just have to be lucky.
fuel pump new from ford w/in 1 year
fuel filter new w/in 3 months
new coil
new crank position sensor
new cam position sensor (not the bit that connects to the cam, just the sensor on top)
new fuel pump relay
MAF and IAC just cleaned
when it cranks, i can press the gas pedal and that doesn't make it start, which rules air out. fuel pump kicks on and it gets pressure. with a new coil, crank and cam sensors, what else could it be? plug wires have around 70k on them, they're next to be replaced.
no CEL, no codes, never runs rough.
searching (been at it for a week, hence the list of shit that's been already replaced) turned up nothing i haven't tried.

Re: Intermittent crank but no start

It cant be the inertia switch, there would be no power to the fuel pump. So do you have spark?

Re: Intermittent crank but no start
yes i know it's not the inertia switch since my fuel pump works and it builds pressure.
and i do have spark.

yeah, this happened to me before what i did was remove the battery terminals and cleaned them off with WD40 and put them back on and it started, this may not be the problem but it helped me when my truck wouldnt start, it may also be that your Positive cable is corroded inside.

Have u gotten the fuel pressure checked? I know u already replaced the pump, but i believe its a fuel problem.

Re: Intermittent crank but no start
figure out my stupid problem. one of my spark plug wires was rubbing on the trans dipstick tube (way to go ford!) and wore through the jacket enough to arc. found it last night when checking again for spark.

Re: Intermittent crank but no start
i'm leaning towards it being the fuel pump again! just replaced it with a ford unit in july 11. pretty fucking pissed that $350 only got me about 15 months of use.

Re: Intermittent crank but no start
Get a can of carb. cleaner and take your air cleaner duct loose. Spray some carb. cleaner in while cranking the engine, if it starts you have a fuel problem.
