Default Is Pure Ethanol worth putting in my motor?

I have a 3.0L v6 flex fuel motor and i was wondering if its worth running pure ethanol in my truck. Some people say its not worth it but im thinking its worth it since i have a flex fuel motor so why not? Or should i just mix it 50/50? What do u guys think? Does anybody with a flex fuel motor just rum on pure ethanol only or what?

----------

Also will it harm my engine? I would like to know becuz gas prices keep going up and i could be saving some money since i have a flex fuel motor.

Uh, what are you smoking? You can't run on 100% ethanol. E85 is 85% ethanol.

No.
Ethanol is stupid anyways.
You won't be saving any money.

With ethanol you will get worse Mpg thus using more gas negating any savings.

might as well put water in the engine, let it run and call it a day.

I don't know a a lot about the subject......but I have heard this guy before.....he is 100% pro ethanol.......claims any car built since 1983 can run on it....Hh drives Daryl Hannah's 1979 trans am around on Alcohol...I admit he is a Zealot..but you might learn a few things form him.......I try to keep an open mind about everything until I understand it fully myself....One thing i definitely don't get is that supposedly corn is close to a 1 to 1 ratio of energy to produce but in Brazil they use sugar cane and that is suppose to be a 1 to 8 ratio of energy to produce........I do not understand this topic fully.......

Maybe you should be more specific. Where are you getting the 100% alcohol?

A little off topic, but........... I read the Henry Ford Bio when it came about 25 years ago.....a few interesting things I still remember 1)Henry was kind of infatuated with the soybean 2) when he started building cars he originally planned on running them on alcohol produced from all the farms around him.......

e85 has interested me always, i found these threads that are pretty convincing that it isnt bad.

http://www.therangerstation.com/foru...ad.php?t=81404
stmitch is where i saw it towards the end

another good one
http://www.therangerstation.com/foru...ad.php?t=96292

also from what ive found, if you do use it, gradually mix it in versus a straight tank of it

All e85 does is make the pump easier to look at on a fill up. When in reality you are spending the same because you have to fill up more. Ethanol laced gas puts out less energy than pure gas. If I were you I would spend the extra money to find pure 100% Gasoline and not e85 e15 or e10.

A friend of mine has a flex fuel dakota with a v8 on regular e10 gasoline he gets 15-16mpg. On e85 he gets about 8-9mpg.

My girlfriends escape 4cyl gets 22-23 mpg hwy on e10 and on a road trip we found pure gas and we got 27-28mpg hwy and it was only 15 cents higher than e10

I have actually had good results with e85, my mileage usually only drops 1-3 mpg and by me it is usually 40-60 cents cheaper than regular and it runs perfectly fine usually better on corn and actually has MORE power than on regular.

But when i first got my truck the timing chain was really wore out with only 160k mi and the truck was horrible with e85 but it was like a new truck after the fact, so i think that e85 tends to get a bad rap with the rangers because the negative effects are way exaggerated with a worn chain because the timing is retarded and cant be advanced enough to run right and/or take advantage of the higher octane rating. But this was simply an observation of mine with my own truck.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I am watching from the sidelines......for now...........I am not an expert or claiming to be an expert on the subject....if you think anything I am saying is incorrect please correct me....I gather information form both sides of the issue........

Maybe someone is choosing to run e85 or higher because they hate Mobil-Exxon more than Monsanto....however, if you are going to run e85+ in your truck and the truck has not had e85 in for a long time you might consider changing the fuel filter before hand. the e85 is going to clean out your tank and system. I think the recommendation is to run about 3 tanks/1000 miles and then change the fuel filter again. In some case the sock on the pump can get covered in varnish etc........you might even consider swapping that out. I think a lot of the fuel pump issues from alcohol are actually caused by the fuel filter and socks getting clogged and burning the pump out.....not the actual alcohol destroying the pump.......Also I think some of the MPG's discrepancy might be from people changing back and forth from gas to alcohol....I think if you run the alcohol, after a few tanks you should see about a 10% reduction in Mileage......
