Default Dosnt seem to have the power it should? 3.0

I have the 3.0 engine and it just don't seem to have to power it should. I usually shift from 1st to 2nd at 3000 RPM and it has absolutely no pull in 2nd gear. I couldn't even gain any speed going up a hill with the pedal to the floor in 2nd gear. Is this normal or am I not shifting at the right time? Thanks in advance

what rpm were you at once you got into 2nd gear? seems like the 3.0 makes just enough power to cruise up to around 3000 or so, after that actually has enough power to accelerate (i'm going by memory here, my current truck didn't even come with a tach)

It's pretty normal. The 3.0 makes barely more power than the 2.3 D-tech, and has more weight to drag around. In a race, the 2.3 will spank the 3.0, but the 3.0 is slightly better for towing.

Wow yall are really harsh on the little 3.0 Low power, what mods have you done? Open the intake, tune up? new coil packs? Could your cat be plugged up? hard to diagnose low power.

breath in breath out. when ever you start anything new the learning curve is always a little frustrating. you should relax and think logically. ....first thing you should do is try an get any codes read. even if the cel is not on. there is a lot of good free advice around here. you need to tells us in details what the issues are and we will walk you thru what you need to do. Please tell us any work/ maintenance that has been done. plugs wires, fuel filter, air filter, clean maf? clean iacv, ........ if you dont know the history try and guess by inspecting them.

2.3 Engine 117hp @ 4500 RPM (1998 -1999)
3.0 Engine 145hp @ 5000 RPM (1998 -1999)

Like John said 3.0 is pulling around more weight then the 2.3L truck. Only 28HP separate the two

A 2.3 will beat a 3.0 I have seen it before both trucks were stock

it will beat it but. what gear ratio did the 3.0L have? cause the 4.10's wake it up a crap ton more then the 3.73s. i thought the 2.3 d-tec was 143hp. and that being said i have raced one and beat it. (when i was stock) and if a 117hp 2.3 can beat a 3.0L then that 3.0L was not running like it should. my bro has a extended cab automatic 3.0L and hangs with my friends even lighter car that has 127hp. so being that if it was a 2.3 and a 3.0L regular cab then i don't see how a 117hp truck which weighs more then my friends car beat a 145hp truck that weighs a little more. when my bros truck weighs 4000 pounds and my friends car weighs 2500. my truck which weighs 3300 with me in it. with my brothers tires beat a prelude by a car length. so i don't see how the 2.3 could beat a 3.0L regular cab with 4.10's now if it was like ext cab or 3.73 it would be closer.

I could be wrong but i just don't see it with my experiences. But its not gonna matter anyways. cause im going supercharged then 3.0L d-tec after i get the cash.

I am not sure of the axle gearing in it I know for fact it was not 4.10 though It was a one wheel peeler also

I know my 4.0 modified with L/S 4.10 will leave a lot of cars/trucks in the dust

my 3.slow with 4.10s will lite up the tires on starts but by the time i get to highway speeds its a dog i can do easily 80 or 90 without a problem i just dont like to see my rpms that high as in 4,000rpms to 4500rpms it makes it kinda nervous
