Towing
Looking to boost my horsepower a bit for towing my travel trailer. 1999 ranger 3.0 ffv 5speed. considering a superchip or tuner. Any ideas on what would be best. David

Re: Towing
I'm going through the same deal my friend. Except that I will be towing a trailer up a 8% grade...

Re: Towing
Trailer weighs 2300#'s. Not a real problem towing it especially with weight distribution just looking for a little more juice.

Honestly... Do the throttle cable mod to ensure you have 100% of your throttle. Throw some sea foam in the tank b4 you haul, and make sure you have some decent gas in the tank. An open air cleaner might give you a little umph.
I haul a 2600 lb toy hauler with my 3.0 auto. Hills suck, but it handles it.

Re: Towing
Didnt know about the cable mod. Running premium in it. Your right, the hills do suck but on normal grade I keep up pretty well.

It's really quite easy. Grab some zip ties and crawl underneath your dash. Pull up on your gas pedal and notice how much cable sticks out at the top where the car butt is. . Add as many zip ties a you need to take up the slack. It should raise your pedal back up. I put 4 on mine. Huge difference.
There's a thread on here ( multiples ) with pics.

And that's " cable butt " lol

Re: Towing
Just did mod. Took two to take up slack. Will see on way to work how it pans out but from reading the other thread on it sounds like a great idea.

Re: Towing
I migh be towing 3000 lbs on an 8% grade with my 3.0L. Would you recommend filling it with 91 grade gas? Or will that actually not help it at all?
