I dunno the real answer. Any tech will always tell you to run the octane the manufacturer recommends. I personally think higher octanes run better and eliminates the ping I sometimes get with 87. If the extra $$$ won't break your bank for the trip - give it a try. At least one way.

Whenever we go on a road trip I always fill with premium(92octane)because of the hills and steeper grades. I have always found that it does help alot. Others may disagree but I'm a solid believer in it. David

Agreed. For my daily driving I burn the cheap stuff, but for long hauls, 93 is best. It can't hurt anything.

Thanks, Ill give it a try. I haven't towed before so I dont know how the truck will do. Ive carried 500-1000 lbs in the bed on the same road with no problem but now not only will I have a loaded truck but a 5x8 heavy duty trailer loaded up. Ive pulled a 3000 lb car around my yard before so I have an little idea on acceleration. The 3.0 actually has some good power to it. I'm just concerned about it when it comes to towing 3000 lbs up three 7% grades that are 8 miles long.

Turn OD off, plop it into second and keep the tach at a steady rpm where you feel it's not over working. You'll be fine.
