Default Rough idle/misfire

Hey all, looking for a little bit of help here.

Yesterday, I had a scan run on my 03 Edge, and it threw a P0306. That's a #6 misfire.

I've changed the plugs (Motorcraft SP-432, gapped at .44) It was full of Bosch Platinums (plus one Autolite XP104).

I've cleaned both the MAF and IAC, but I still have a misfire. Here's the rub, though. When I rev the engine, it won't return to it's normal idle immediately. Instead, it hangs at about 1000 for a few seconds, before returning to normal. This leads me to think it's a vacuum leak.

Am I off base here?

Also what's the 'most common' leak, that would cause this sort of misfire? Any pointers on where to look first, or is my idea of starting under the throttle body a good one?

Thanks for any input guys..

Ignition coil sounds shot. I just replaced mine its a standard motor parts economy one. warranty for 36k miles for 35 bucks plus shipping off rockauto. makes it idle like a brand new truck. the motorcraft ones are 70 bucks. you can test the ignition coil to see if its bad like this

check it out, its an easy test and replacement.

Everything than you described happened to me about a month ago. It was the ignition coil and plug wires. Once I changed them all was well again.

I'm having a similar issue. No CEL. But rough idle sometimes with a heavy hesitation off the line. Have new coil pack in hand. Will post results post replacement.

I'm interested in your results.
I plan to test my coil pack on my meter when I get home this afternoon. Results to follow...

SUCESS!!! Replace coil pack. Did not bother testing as I already had the new one in my hand. Sure enough a .75" crack in plastic side. Replaced. Started. RUNS AS STRONG AS EVER!!!!!!

Skipped testing my coil pack and opted to replace both it and the plug wires.
Power is back, but still rough on start-up. Smooths out when it's warm, though.

Is this the end of my IAC?

I cleaned the hell out of it, and it did help, a little bit.

Not being familiar with the Vulcan, is a 'butter smooth' idle even possible, or at it's best, will it still have a bit of roughness to it?

The vulcans are strong, durable, NOISEY engines. The taurus used it from the late 90's till
It's doom in the 2000's. Along with the rangers. It pings from time to time depending on the fuel used.

They did however blow head gaskets and manifold gaskets from time to time. I think that's with most domestic motors from GM and Ford...

I sold fords for a short time from 01-03. Even brand new - the vulcans were NOISEY and at times rough running. I can remember people buying the 24v taurus engine, just to get away from the noise.

Nonetheless - a good engine.

----------

And after all that - I didnt answer your questions. Lol. My Vulcan runs and idles very smooth. I just replaced - plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, and cool pack. Clean both the MAF and the IAC. it should idle smoother than not.

Clean the throttle body and egr valve. Both use only carb cleaner.

Can you post a pic of where it should be located then? My book tells me "Note: 2001 and later 3.0L engines are not equipped with an EGR Valve."

I know what they look like, and generally what their locations are, but so far? Can't find one on this truck..
Also, I replaced the coil pack, plugs, and wires, *and* IAC. All that's left at this point is the so-far non-existent EGR, and the throttle body.
