low rpm's
I have a 2002 Ranger XLT 3.0. Sitting in park, when I rev the engine up, about 3000 rpms it hesitates, spits . sputters. Cannot really get it to go much farther. When on the road it is much better, but when I punch it. It is slow on getting the speed up. The rpm's will go pass 3000 easily. It takes a little for it to get above 70mph from 55. It almost seems like, not all the cylinders are firing. I have put in new plugs, wires, cleaned the MAF sensor, changed air filters. Any suggestions. It has 172000 miles on it. I have not had a chance to put it on the computer yet.
Thanks, Mike

Absolutely this. First off if your truck isn't dying or something revving it up is a rediculous notion. Second, it sounds like you are hard on your truck and that ain't cool. You should treat it well and it will treat you well. Don't just sit there and rev the balls off of it

Re: low rpm's
Everything as stated above, and the 3.0 has about what, 150 hp on a good day. It was never meant to be quick.

Re: low rpm's
Ok I get it. I have only had the truck a couple of weeks. It is running just a little rough at a lower idle, so that is why I rev it up a little, that is when I noticed around 3000 rpm's it started to cut out. Did not know it had a limiter on it. And no, I do not abuse the vehicles that I have. I take real good care of them.

Re: low rpm's
Reving it up that hard is about as bad as red lining it and being high mileage is not a good idea,l take it to auto zone the code will tell you and no guess work. I have the same truck with 98,658 miles runs perfect when i tuned it up.
