take the seats out then take the bed off then the fenders up front the hood then your daily commuter is ready for the fast and the furious racing. 3.0 were not ment to go fast lol but you can always get a K/N or do the air silencer removal from the air intake box. it made my truck accelerate some what faster. not really noticeable. or a racing chip or a turbo if they even make one for a ranger 3.0. i know they make a super charger. if you want to go fast buy vehicle that was made to go fast lol

Actually no, that won't make it go any faster.

^^^ thats cool if his didn't. mine did have a little more acceleration for sure. first gear was the big diff. plus it make a cool sound when the RPM's get up there lol some people like to think it don't work and others who think it does. there can be a huge fight that goes deep into this. but i know my truck, and i personally think it has a little better acceleration in first gear.

Then the filter you replaced was heavily clogged and full of debris. Putting a "cold air intake" or a K&N filter does not add any performance over the stock filter. It just doesn't.

Think what you want, but the heads are the restriction in your truck, not the intake. It made no difference.

It seems there are quite a few people here who actually believe it does something. Someone posts a "write up" on the so-called "air box mod", and now there's a bunch of misinformed people on the bandwagon. I think it's amusing.

it does help when you have a wide open throttle,
when i put mine on i saw an increase of about 1 to 2 mpg highway, and you can't say it was a heavily clogged filter because the truck barely had 3,000 miles on it and the stock filter was spotless
but it hurt the mpg in the city

Ford spends millions if not billions of dollars to try and improve fuel economy. If what you are saying is true then you must know more than thier engineers. Plus, you must be more qualified as a tuner than I am.

The whole "more air flow adding mpg" thing doesn't make any sense. The computer regulates fuel flow to maintain a given fuel/air ratio. Lets assume that the filter and airbox were actually adding measurable resistance (which it isn't). The increase in air flow would require an increase in fuel flow to keep the air/fuel ratio correct. Which would translate to an INCREASE in fuel consumption.

99% of the air filter and air box modifications result in no real gain. If you think you feel a difference, it is all in your head.

Exactly, fuel and air is like making a cake.

If you need 3 eggs and for every 10 cups of batter, the increasing it to 6 eggs will require 20 cups of batter.

The measurable resistance is in the HEADS of this engine, where gases are moving at maximum speeds.

well i do know that the 04+ have a super small maf sensor housing. which results in less then 50mm of usable air flow. I think the K&N open it up just a little bit but not enough to overwhelm the computer. not sure.
