The maf is scaled by the surface area of the cross section so that it can mathematically calculate the flow through this area and turn this number into a volumetric flow rate. Changing this diameter requires scaling the maf tables: I do this for a living. If you have a wider diameter opening it will cause lean conditions until your closed loop fuel trims are adjusted. The KAM's will also show a big jump +% from nominal, and most likely throw codes.

I understand this. Im not a tuner or anything but i get the concepts of tuning and all of the basics. I have heard of people getting lean codes from the K&N intakes on 04+ that's what makes me think it maybe a little larger. But you are correct about the heads. Whoever designed the heads seemed like they got the design outta the rejection pile. the exhaust is a damn near 90 degree bend. But it can all be fixed. i do agree that if you do the heads and gasket match the whole intake side of the engine that the cold air intake will help. but it does not help much with a pretty much stock motor. the biggest thing that you wanna do when porting the intake is you want to keep intake velocity as high as possible and try and make the path more of a straight shot into the motor. So gasket match and smoothing is the only thing that should really be done IMO

Umm. I think JP7 would know your truck a little better than you. I mean he was there right? And where were you? He even knows when your filter is dirty apparently. What a dick.

its one thing to disagree with someone but being insulting is another so lets keep discussion civil and quit with the insults.

Actually he does know more than a lot of people do about their own vehicles. He uses actual science and controlled testing to determine facts. Where most people pour a bottle of octane booster in their gas tank, start the engine, and claim they feel a 10hp gain.
