Head Gasket, intake, or something else?
Hi All, I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0 liter with 252k on the ole girl. She has been great up until now. I thought I may have a head gasket going, a buddy checked it with a guage and didn't show to be that, as guage held at 16 psi, just dropped ever so slightly in 15 minutes. I start it, temp needle hangs below cold, drive for 5-10 minutes and it pegs, then seems to equal itself out, while blowing the antifreeze into the overflow. The heater will begin to heat up, then goes ice cold when the temperature needle begins to peg, then will get heat as it drops back down but not near as hot as it should be. Can drive all day and nothing else happens as long as it doesn't cool all the way down. I have flushed it, 4 thermostats and a new cap. Will not suck any of the antifreeze back in, as I have to drain the resy and add it back in to the radiator. I had tried blue devil prior ti him checking it with the guage and to no avail. It also seems to be building up alot of pressure. A friend suggested going to a 6-8 pound cap, instead of the 16 pound cap that the system requires. Any thoughts on this? There was a little bit of antifreeze drippin from the block on the passenger side front and seems to be wet in this area when the guage was put on to pressurize it. Feb 09 water pump and Sept 09 new radiator due to the neck for the upper radiator hose breaking off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
