Default Truck shuts off while driving.

Today while driving down the road about 45mph my truck shuts off. I let it come to a spot and and put it in park and try to start it several times. No luck. The engine would turn over but would not light off. I have about half a tank, I thought maybe the fuel pump might have cavitated or something so I took the gas cap off and tried turning it over and it cranked right up.

Needless to say I drove off and got to my next destination and it did it again. So seems it is intermittent.

What about that intertidal switch for the fuel cutoff. Could that be going bad cutting the power off to the pump?

Hi. I have a 2006 6cyl and am experiencing a similar problem. I haven't had it cut off while driving yet but have had several times when it would not start. I have to date: replaced the fuel pump, the inertial switch, and all related fuel pump relays. It did it again yesterday but started ok 30 min later. Does anyone know if there is a fuel pressure sensor or such that might be causing the no start or shut off while driving issue? I love my Ranger but am about ready to jump ship.

You know ,when you said you took off the gas cap and it started ,it reminded me of a problem that I had a couple years ago that was the same and it turned out to be the gas cap wasn't venting and allowing air into the tank so it would get to the point where the pump couldn't pull any gas out of tank. See if your locale parts store can test it. It's suppose to hold pressure but allow air in!!
