I didn't mean to scare you with talk about cracked heads or blocks just telling you what my experience was. I thought I had a blown head gasket and turned out to be a cracked block. Blown head gaskets are the more common cause of the symptoms you have.

I'm also a worst case kinda guy. I figure out the worst case scenario then when it's not as bad as that I feel better than if it was the worst case.
I here you. I think worst case scenario when rooting for my sports teams. I'm going to tackle it myself, or try, because the mechanic thinks it will have a cracked head. So if that ends up being the case, I'll need the money I save tearing it apart myself to pay for a new head or heads. If it's a cracked block, it gets sidelined indefinitely and I look for a cheap beater.

If it has a cracked block you can swap the motor! You could probably find one for around $500. Why buy a another truck/car?
