Check Engine Light on & on...
Sorry if this has been covered-if someone knows which thread let me know, thanks. Don't want to annoy...
Anyway I recently bought a 2000 reg cab xlt with 62000 miles, flexfuel 3.0 from a dealer. "Check engine" light was on and I was promised they would "take care of it".
service guy said later it was some type of sensor in the fuel system---could have been O2, I don't know. Said I would have to pay the 108 bucks for the part, 3 hours labor, etc., and the dealer would eat 300 bucks in labor. Dubious to me, but I wanted the truck.
The truck was done way before they said it would take. Was told I was good to go-so I went. I filled the tank and after 100 miles or so, "Check Engine" light back on. Drove another 150 before I could get home (also filled tank again) and disconnected the battery to reset. Went on a 20 mile ride and the light is still off right now.
Dealer doesn't want to talk to me ( right after the check cleared I guess) and doesn't seem to have or won't produce a work order for the parts and labor--I'd like to see the diagnostic code or codes for myself.
Also having a problem with the O/D OFF light not working or button isn't working---but that's another thread
Thanks

Re: Check Engine Light on & on...
Although I'd love to try a new gas cap and probably will soon, but you'd think they would have done that first instead of a mucho $$$$$$ estimate based on the computer code(s).
Still trying to get work order/computer codes/satisfaction/whatever from dealer. Haven't given up. I figure it cut way into whatever little profit margin they had.
I wish it is as simple as a gas cap

Re: Check Engine Light on & on...
My 02 sensor is constantly lighting up my CEL. I just overlook it. There is nothing wrong. They probably just cleared the code.

Re: Check Engine Light on & on...
Go to any autoparts store and have the code read first to see what it is. There is absolutely no point in discussing anything at all any further until you do that.

FireRanger
I was eventually planning that, just wanted a code from the Ford dealer but apparently they're blowing smoke & really don't care about a rep.

Re: Check Engine Light on & on...
Of course they don't. But the CEL being on indicates one of about 1000 possible conditions that is impossible to tell. So asking "Why might this be on" is not going to get you anywhere.
Get the code read and start a new appropriately titled thread with that information and you'll get the help you actually need.
