I am about to change the fuel filter in my ranger, because well i have a new one layin here, and im getting terrible mileage. Was about to unplug the reset switch but theres no wire running to it? Can i just go ahead then and swap the filter?

Re: Fuel Filter
just open your gas cap to relieve the pressure,or pull the fuse for your fuel pump, then run your truck until it stalls jack it up, prepare a rag, as there is still gas coming your way, goggles as well, good luck!

You have to disconnect the inertia switch. There has to be wires going to it or your truck wouldnt start. Also you need the tool and goggles.

I see whats going on. It was not plugged in. Some how whoever owned it before me, ghetto rigged the plug, so the two wires going into it were soldered together. But they arent soldered.

Now just waiting on the removal tool since one of the push clips is broken. Kinda coming to the conclusion, somebody wrecked my truck and rigged that switch so it could start

I kinda figured that. Thats why i think my truck was wrecked. Cause it has a replacement grille on the front and the engine was replaced also, and when i bought it the windshield was spider webbed with cracks. Guess im gonna have to go to ford or a junkyard and grab another switch

I would definitely get that inertia switch wired back up correctly. I definitely remember feeling a difference when I changed my filter so if yours was bad its not just in your head.

Re: Fuel Filter
Is there a how-to or more detailed discussion on changing the fuel filter on the 3.0 flex ? I searched to no avail. Thanks.

what's your question about it?
because, i think there are only two or three types of fuel filter connections across all ranger models...normal hose clamps, clips (that can be pulled off by hand), and the type that require the 'fuel hose disconnect tool'.
the procedure is to relieve fuel pressure & then pull the old filter off - then install new filter...

Re: Fuel Filter
I have a '96 XLT. What type of filter do I have? Hopefully the one with the regular hose clamp. I ordered the filter but haven't crawled under the truck to take a look at it yet.
