Default No heat and there is a burning smell.

The other day I was driving to work and I had my heat on and its about a 15 minute drive and yet my heat was not hot at all. It was ice cold. When I got to work I smelled something burning and I opened my hood and I had antifreeze everywhere. My boyfriend checked one of the pipe things going to the radiator and it felt like slush was in there so he emptied it out and this stuff was not that greenish color it should have been, it was white like ice. So we figured there was too much water added and it was freezing. These past couple of days its been really nice out, thinking it would have thawed by now. But I'm thinking that this was not the problem.
What else could it be?
Also when my truck is idling, and I turn on the heat my thermostat starts to rise but then goes back down. Is it overheating? Please help! I know little to almost nothing about vehicles. :/

It might be possible the thermostat is stuck but, more than likely if there was too much water mixed with the anti freeze that it froze in the radiator like you said . If the radiator froze solid, the coolant from the engine would have to leak out somewhere . Now that the weather is better, try flushing the cooling system and add new antifreeze and see what happens. Good Luck !!!

I already added more, but still got nothing. Is flushing it difficult?

Its not difficult too difficult, I would try replacing the thermostat at this time also. Typical mixture of antifreeze and water usually is 50/50. This the most common ratio and should be good for about -30 deg. One other thing, on some early 3.0 engines, air can enter the cooling system and must be bled out, this also can cause some weird hearting/cooling issues on its own. I would call a local Ford dealer or reputable garage and explain the problem for an estimate, shouldn't be too expensive...
