After further research.... I have to vote SCT is the best handheld tuner available doing all these other tuners do+ other important things like fuel injector size, egr delete, headers,back two O2 delete, etc...

Sct is another brand of tuner. They make custom tunes unlike superchips

Doesn't the sct tuner require you to run higher octane though?

Depends what tune you have made, their custom to your truck. So if you want higher octane then you can have it, or of you want to stick to 87 and get more power then they make the tune around that

Yeah but how much power are we actually gaining? Im looking into getting a tuner soon and im a bit skeptical on weather its worth it or not. I drive about 10 straight uphill miles on the way to work and more power would be great. But im also rolling with a 3.0 with 3.73s on 33x12.5 tires. I mean obviously i need to re gear but my money tree isnt growing that fast.

For a stock 3.0 tuned alone is about +9hp,+13torque... from what I have read on all the advertisements. I have further plans for the exhaust, intake, and injectors, so the SCT is better for me, and the HP/torque gains will be greater. But still, at the price $341.00 and all its ability--its the best buy IMO.

Yeah but what I want to see is what 350 bucks and 9 hp actually gets you. I mean sure a handful of other upgrades combined with this can be good but just a tuner alone im not really sure if its even worth the money. Not saying nobody should buy them, this is just why i havent bought one yet.

Speaking of it, when tuned for its best performance option, what have you noticed different in your Ranger's operating conditions? How much different is it than the towing option?

haha no big deal dude, I have the flashpaq and its bugging to hear about this SCT now and maybe I should have got that instead, lol.

As for the performance on the flashpaq, i can really feel the difference in the shifting and acceleration.
As for the tow mode, i haven't used it because im confused, when u select it it says u need to be running like 91-92 octance.
So i don't know if i should try it, most of the time i run either 87 or 89.

Wow, that is confusing to me as well... I would think the performance tune would require the high octane? I thought you also get a full refund if returned within 30 days? Or is that void the second you use the tuner?

No I didn't buy mine retail, I got it off a guy on Craigslist that lives in the town down the road from me. He bought it for his crown Vic car, but he wrecked the car. The tuner came with the box and everything. I paid 175 for it. Got a great deal.
