Question U/D pullies

So, just curious... who all has the U/D pullies? I will be ordering mine very soon and im just curious how noticable the hp and torque gains are. I figure ill be able to reall feel some good gains since ive already got the intake and exhaust on there. And if youve got them, seen any good mpg gains in the city and/ or highway?

Thanks for any info!

I'm running just the U/D crank pulley and honestly, couldn't tell much of a difference because I installed it on my brand new engine....so I had a brand new engine, brand new tunes, and the thing was barely running when I did get it running. I know the new engine has alot to do with it, but good god does this truck pulll HARD in 1st and 3rd!

i've got the u/d pullies on my 3.0L. i really noticed a difference in acceleration from before. mpg have definatley gone up, i'm seeing around 25-27 mpg highway (at like 60-65 mph); however, city mpg has gone slightly down. most likely because of my exhaust but also its stop and go every 500 yards. now im at like 15-14 mpg city. but getting 300+ miles per tank driving highway makes up for it!

how do you have your super 44 set up? Ive got a flowmaster super 44 with the pipe coming out directly before the tire like a lightning.

i've got em, had em on my 98 4x4 and when that died i moved em to my 99 2wd, couldn't tell ya exactly what difference it made cause i put them on at the same time as my electric fan, but the engine felt like it responded a little better at low rpms

underdrive pulleys
if you only put on an underdrive crank pulley all you accesories are spun slower, i have a kit consisting of a 20% underdrive crank pulley, 20% overdrive alternator pulley, and 20% overdrive water pump pulley, so it won't affect my engine cooling or charging systems but my power steering and air conditioning are underdriven, the hope is to take a little drag off the crank shaft in the engine and thus free up a little horsepower

hey gearhead, how much of a difference did the e-fan make? i have the 3 piece pulley set too and i wanna ditch the clutch driven fan, but can't justify taking of something that is 99% reliable for something that may or may not increase performance..

its not a huge difference, its only noticable in low rpms

i put the electric fan in because my stock fan clutch locked up so my fan never stopped spinning, it was killing my power and gas mileage and i figured if i was gonna fix the problem i might as well go all the way, the fan def. wasn't cheap, and the controller that came with it isn't known for reliability so i have a better one waiting for when the whole thing goes back in the 4x4, when i first put the fan in i figured i might as well do the pulleys while i was at it, just get the whole thing done while i had it taken apart

for reference here's what i got:
pulleys:
http://www.stuffforyourranger.com/st...de4b6f4f92c8fe
fan:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLX-180/
new fan controller:
http://www.spalusa.com/store/main.as...tem=FAN-PWM-V3

the fan def. works really well, its the biggest single fan i could fit in there, the shroud covers most of the radiator, when it comes on you can sit there and watch the coolant temp gauge start dropping, i'm happy with the investment, the truck is a little quieter around town cause you don't hear the fan spinning, it gained a little power, i think the fan will complement the new 5.0 nicely, it also makes it a little easier to work on the front of the engine, like changing a serp. belt is even easier now

i don't know much about it but some guys have run an e-fan from a taurus or a mercury sable, i didn't have the time to go looking through a junkyard for one but thats something to think about cause you would get the same gains and i'm sure it would cost a lot less than my setup
