I've only done it with an 8 cylinder but I would think it would be the same. I saw it somewhere online. Get yourself a TDC stop(not really sure if thats what its called). Then remove the number one sparkplug and screw the stop in there. Turn the engine one way and where it stops make a mark. Then turn it the other way until it stops and make another mark. Right in the middle of the two marks you made will be your TDC.

You will need a friend. Remove #1 plug. Stick your thumb over the hole. Have friend bump the motor over. When the compression blows your thumb out, your at TDC. You can look at the crank to verify the mark. You may need to turn it forwards/backwards a frog fuzz. Not sure on the 3.0 but it should be like 10* BTDC

I've got a 3.0 as well and I'm trying to find TDC so I can change my timing chain. The marks on the sprockets are lined up but the TDC mark on the dampener is not lined up with those marks and seems to be at a mark midway between TDC and BTDC.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to this so I'm taking my time to get this right but I'm not sure how to proceed. I've got everything off but the timing chain and I'm just waiting to find out for certain how to line up TDC.

If your timing gear marks are lined up with eachother, you are at tdc. The marks on the damper will have its own pointer, most times its off to one side or the other, it won't line up with the timing gear marks.

Cool. Thank you. I found the mark on the timing cover after I cleaned the gunk off of it.

If the cam and crank gear marks are lined up you can't be half off, turn the crank one turn and you will be, but the marks will be off too. Crank turns twice to the cam's once.
