I have a 98 3.0 with a bad engine. I found a 01 Ranger 3.0 ; is that a straight forward swap. Will I need the 01 engine computer? My 98 is a manual and the 01 engine came from an auto Ranger.

I take it that you are swapping just the engine, and keeping the manual trans. If this is the case, I believe you need to keep all of your own sensors and pcm for it to work properly. Others on here will know more than I.

Yes I plan to keep my 5 speed manual . I found another engine from the same year truck with 80000 miles for $650 . It has 50000 more miles than the 01; but I know it will be a straight forward swap. It should outlast the rest of the truck . The original engine went 222000 before it had a rod knocking.
