Default New fuel pump. Anyone just replaced the pump itself?

I noticed yesterday the fuel pump on my '03 is getting noisy.
In looking at Rock Auto, I was surprised to see most replacements are complete modular units that Includes Fuel Pump, Sender, Float, Strainer and Fuel Reservoir. They run anywhere from $140.00 - $380.00.
They also list just the pump alone, which is what I was expecting to see listed in the first place for $78.00.

Anyone else here just replaced the pump itself instead of buying that complete unit that effectively replaces what are now perfectly good parts?
Did Ford make this unit so it can be serviced?

I have come to realize it is much easier just to replace the whole assembly. I did that in a cavalier and took no time at all. I replaced one in my camry and all they sell for It is just the pump. It wasn't bad at all but it is defiantly made to be serviceable I don't think the rangers are. Just my experience for ya.

I suppose in the end that is the better way to go.
My luck the sending unit on this old one would fail a month after I replace the pump.

get a high quality pump. when mine went out, i searched on here for reviews on the different brands. one of the mods replaced his with a cheaper unit and had it go out a month later.

Im a manager at advance auto parts and we sell airtex and Bosch and Bosch have a lifetime warranty and make awesome pumps. Airtex are also good but only have a one year warranty but I have never had to return one. There is quite a price difference in the Bosch but defiantly worth it. If your interested in one from advance I can see what kind of deal I can get you. Just pm me or shoot me a text 4405399136

Hello, I went out and bought the pump unit alone before looking into it and now I'm trying to install it. I cant seem to get the old pump off the assembly? I have the wires and the fuel line disconnected but the pump is still attached to the return line.
