Smile Replacing Cam Shaft Synconizer on 2002 Ranger 3.0

When I purchased the cam shaft synconizer to replace the one that chirps, the Ford man said I should also replace the cam shaft sensor and update the computer. Is it necessary to replace the cam shaft sensor and update the computer?

I dont know about the computer, but if the sensor is good, then there is no need to replace it. I will be swapping mine out soon, and since the magnet and wiring harness is still good, I will be reusing the sensor. I would HIGHLY encourage you to get the alignment tool for the cam sync.....I will be purchasing mine from Rockauto.com so my product will come with the alignment tool.

Thanks for the replay, I didn't think I should replace the sensor. Jack

My sensor caused my check engine light to come on. 3 months later I got the chirp so I replaced the cam sync and the sensor again. 15 bucks for a sensor, if youre going to work on it why not replace it? Only thing I did that had anything to do with the computer is make the check engine light go off.

Thanks for your reply, might as well do both and not worryt about the computer. My check engine light came on over another issue and we just disconnect the battery and that took care of the check engine light. Jack
