well im pretty sure my truck is making the death chirp..started two days ago and is bad enough that im worried about driving my truck. was quoted by an repair shop that if thats the problem, itll cost around 200. im not real mechanically inclined, so im debating if spending the extra cash is worth having it done professionally, or if i should attempt to fix it myself. what do you guys think?

You want motorcraft parts. I bought mine from Geiser Ford on flea-bay for about $120 shipped for both. Great guy to deal with http://myworld.ebay.com/geiserford19...:X:CEM:US:1181 If they don't have it listed just send them a message. I always got a response within a day.

motorcraft syncronizer part number: F8DZ-12A362-AA
strator/sensor: DU81

Oh, and I used the "no tool" method and it took 20 minutes total. The hardest part was lining everything back up but it has been almost 10k miles and I have not had a problem since. A new Sharpie is your friend.

Once you actually go and attempt to replace it the difficulty level will always seem higher. I put mine off for almost a month (dumb move on my part but thankfully nothing went wrong) and had it done in 20 minutes. Taking your time is key. I am glad everything worked out for you.

its actually a whole lot of hype. i talked for a half an hour with a ase certified mechanic at my work who explained to me the synchro has nothing to do with oil pressure. if the synchro head were to fail the shaft below it driving the oil pressure will keep on going. the engine will run like shit because it doesnt know when to inject fuel or spark. dont listen to the hype it should be done but your engine wont loose oil
