My mom was driving my ranger and the water pump failed, it boiled all the water out and she said she was close to home so she decided to drive (5 miles up a windy steep road) but the engine died before she could get there. I live out of the area so I told her to park it. I got home and changed the water pump and it wouldn't fire so I started looking and the boots were melted and 2 plugs were cracked. I pulled the plugs out and did a compression test. 5 of the 6 cylinders were in the 50-60 psi range. I am going to pull the heads today but I was wondering if there's anything I should check. There doesn't appear to be oil in the water or visa versa. My guess is she warped both heads. Any advise / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I got to agree. Just to many unknowns. I don't know if I would trust it without having the engine block itself checked for cracks. I would just hate to spend the cash on getting the heads shaved and rebuilt or just getting a new rebuilt set to have the block split once you start it back up. Wondering if it would not be cheaper to just put a new rebuilt engine in.

^this you've probalby got warped/cracked heads destroyed rings on the pistons(maybe) cracked block(maybe). i would see about dropping in a new engine.... may end up being cheaper in the long run....

i agree with the others. You could possibly seize the motor by rebuilding heads and firing it up if the motor is cracked or displaced. Depending on the mileage, it's probably better in your situation to just replace the engine.
