The last year that a Cobra had the 5.0 was 1995. After that the only had the modular 4.6. The only year to date post 1995 that anything bigger than a 4.6 went into the cobra was on 2000. In 2000 they built the Ford Mustang Cobra R which had a modular 5.4 V8 385-hp engine and a T-56 6-speed tranny. That was also one of the years that a independent rear suspension was put into a cobra mustang. The car handled like no other and there were only 300 Cobra R Mustangs made.

Trust me... I know my Cobras and Stangs!

you guys keep sayin " if you wanna go fast buy something fast"
wheres the fun in that... i mean if only "fast" cars were suppose to go fast then why are there so many pinto drag cars? why did my 89 maxima wax mustang GTs and camaros all night long... being the underdog is fun... its its better making something better then just buyin a fast car
my maxima started with a stock 3.0 and five speed trans.....
- jz30tt heads from a 300zxtt
-custom exhaust manifold and hoses for the turbo (piping not really hoses)
- single t3 turbo
-15 lbs of boost + 100 shot of nitrous when i needed it
and that thing would move
you should see the looks on faces when your faster then a "fast" car

You shouldve seen my friends monster miata in high school! 302 beast with a supercharger on it. Had probably 450 hp and would fly down the strip when he pushed the "fun" button that contained a 150 shot wet nitrous! Nearly blew out the pistons when he tried a 2 stage 200 shot! It went fast though!

I know you can make anything fast but how practical is a super powerful Ranger or Maxima? I'd rather have something that can turn as well as go straight and a Ranger or Maxima wont do that. Also what about driveability? Yeah sure you have a lot of power coming out of that 6 cylinder but then can you drive it in traffic? Does it get decent MPG? A 3.0 or even SOHC 4.0 will never make any good useable power. They are crappy flowing truck engines. You will end up spending all kinds of money trying to go fast and you will be disappointed. Someone already did everything you could to a Ranger 3.0 and didn't get much in the end. The only fast SOHC 4.0 Ranger that I have seen is Nick's. He has a money tree though. But even then its just not that fast.

Also cool for getting a 12.45 in the Maxima but that sounds slow for the amount of work put into it. My buddy's 06 GTO auto ran a best of 12.5 at 108 with headers, catless midpipes, intake, converter and a tune. Now he has a cam and might be adding nitrous soon. But he drives it everyday and we take it to Vegas. It idles fine in traffic and he can pull about 23 MPG.

To me, power is just part of the equation. Handling and braking are equally as important. A truck just isn't going to be able to take the turns like a car.

I didn't say you needed a different car... I agree completely... you just need a different engine...

God it's nice to finally be old enough to say, "I'm slow 'cause I'm pimpin' my sh*t!"
Trade that 3.0 Ranger for a 3.0 Escape with a column shift. My wife's 01 Escape, stock, is a damn rocket. Talk about making people do a double take.

Them 3.0 escapes ARE rocket ships. At least compared to my truck. Buddy of mines dad let me borrow his while my truck was at his dealer for service. Holy cow...be careful of that skinny pedal. hahah.

My mom's 2008 Edge with the 3.5 V6 in it is fast as hell! That thing will spin tires with ease if you drop the pedal! Its got 265-hp coming out of that engine! And its not even ecoboost! Straight motor!
