Default Hesitation while driving

Good Afternoon,

I am sorry if this has been posted already, but I am stuck. I have a 2001 Ranger Edge 3.0 V6 standard transmission. Recently while driving the truck hesitates for a second and then goes. The RPM's don't rev, it just seems to hesitate and go. This has happened after taking off from being stopped to going around turns. I have changed the belt, thinking that it was the belt slipping. But I am not conviced. Any suggestions? The truck has 75,000 miles. I noticed this occuring after my last oil change, and well the gas tank has been low. I haven't kept it at a full tank. Could this have something to do with it? Thanks in advance for your help.

Not quite sure but i throwing out that maybe its the fuel system. It could be that when you hit the gas the throttle body opens up, thus putting more gas into the mixture. If the fuel pump is messing up or the injectors are getting clogged then they could be moving slow to not be able to keep up with the air flowing in. To start out I would get some complete fuel system cleaner and put that in a full tank of gas. Drive it for that gas tank and if it is still doing that then... i dont know, just try that. haha

Try cleaning your MAF sensor and eliminate that as a problem cleaner is few bucks and doesn't hurt to clean every now and then

How long since your last fuel filter change? Ford reccommends every 30,000. I'd first do that and see how it is.

If that doesn't solve it, I'd pull out the plugs and look at the ceramic. Cracked ceramic caused my new engine to stutter/misfire under any load.

Hesitation is usually a fuel issue. Air is usually not the problem because there is very little to go wrong with that. Air flow is a metal throttle plate with a piece of cable hooked right to the gas pedal. You can't have a lack of air. Fuel on the other hand, is much more likely to be the root of your problem.

For one, the throttle body does not control fuel. The throttle body has nothing to do with fuel at all. The engine is fuel injected. Fuel is injected electronically. Hesitation is typically from a fuel delivery problem. Simplest and most common problem that inhibits fuel delivery... FUEL FILTER. Its cheap and easy.

Cleaning the MAF and other little things is good to do but likely not causing a fuel delivery problem.

This probably isnt it but it dosent hurt to look.

Get under your hood and make sure that all of your vaccum lines are attached and what not. I have had that happen to me.

If also could be a cracked or bad hose. Get a spray bottle of water spray the engine bay while the truck is running. If there is a bad hose it should show the air leak.

This could be a number of problems from a vaccum leak to a bad spark plug, to fuel injectors. But, in my F150 it was the Throttle body doing exact same thing. Dealer replaced it under warranty and ran like new again. Dont know if rangers have the same setup but if you run out of options it may be something to check. But then again F150 has electronic throttle so its probably different.

I usually start with the simple things: Fuel filter, plugs, clean MAF, check spark wires, etc.
