Default 2003 Ranger 3.0L V6 XLT problems after plug change!

I'm a newbie here and I've searched the threads but nothing seems to directly relate to the problem I'm having.

So...

I had an engine fault code which turned out to be a burned out plug lead and arcing out spark plug on cylinder 6. I changed the plug replacing it with what was in there previously, an Autolite 104 gapped at 44. I disconnected the battery and let it sit for 20 minutes but when reconnected and started up the engine just will not run correctly. It's running roughly and won't reach the correct idle speed.
I've checked all of the other spark plugs and leads and they are in tight and in the right places.
I can't for the life of me figure out what's gone wrong with just a plug/lead change! The plug may not be what Ford say it should be but it had run fine with it before..

Any ideas guys?!!

Is it running the same as before you changed it? Maybe it's the wire and not the plug? What did the plug that you pulled out look like? Burnt? Did you replace all the plugs or just the 1?

No codes, but it's still running rough, not letting the revs go beyond 3,000. The computer is obviously trying to take command, but the engine won't even out. We've now replaced all of the plug leads and are going to check the other plugs. We just replaced the single one for cylinder six.

Many of us have had the same problem. And most of the time it is the camshaft sychronizer and or sensor problem. Located at the back of the engine. Back out the two screws holding the sensor onto the sync. They will not come out of the sensor "cap" itself. Just lift it up and look down inside to see if the tab is damaged and look at the underside of the sensor to see if it is damaged. I just had the same problem and with the help of this forum, replaced it myself and saved over $400. Now I have ran it up to as high as 5500 rpm's passing another car with no problems and with the A/C on at that time.

cam sync has a "death chirp" like the sound of a loose or worn belt. I start with the plug wires and check out the IAC, air filter, MAF first.
