Default 99 V6 no power, popping through intake?

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

This vid shows what im talking about. 99 V6 ranger with 220,000 highway miles. Recent timing chain and gears but afterwards it ran really great for over 500 miles before it started with this.

Seems like it "pops" through the intake with almost every revolution, has absolutely no power. I've seen other high mile cars/trucks do this but never diagnosed the actual problem.

Would compression check be my next step? Head gasket? Cracked Head???

Any ideas much appreciated!

I have heard a bad idle air control can make a popping sound, but it wouldn't cause you to loose power.

bad spark plug.. try replacing them and let me know... i spent 300 at a shop diagnosing it and all it ended up being was a stupid $1.85 spark plug... It doesnt matter if theyre brand new.. mine were only 3 weeks old but i think itll resolve your problem

----------

listened to the video again.. thats exactly what mine was doing.. couldnt get the thing over 50 mph with the gas pedal floored..

that sounds like a mechanical issue. something with the timing chain/tensioner? possibly causing it to go out of time?

thats exactly what i thought.. its a miss but after i replaced everything i could think of (except the plugs) i took it to a shop.. they had it for 4 days and finally came to the conclusion of a spark plug. Cost me 317.95.. ill never forget it. The most expensive spark plug EVER...

----------

let me guess.. sounds almost like a backfire of the exhaust in the cab.. im telling you.. try it.. it might fix everything..

Yes, I agree...this absolutely has no power. Couldnt get out of its own way right now. Just doesnt feel like an emissions thing. Thanks.

Sounds strange but I am gnna try that. Thanks.

I guess I could put on the old welding glove and pull one plug wire at a time to see which cyl is the culprit. Then pull/replace that plug just to see. If this is spark plugs I gotta say it's the most diminished performance from plugs going bad I've ever seen in a vehicle. This was all at once too. Running well then caput. I'll still try.

I thought I had checked and rechecked alignment before stitching it up from the timing work. Maybe I missed something there too.

Still cornfused

I have the same engine in my 99 windstar 3.0l vulcan it took me a lot of reading to other sites to get here but anyway I had the same noise and couldnt figure out the problem. we had checked the valves, rocker arms, push rods, torque specs twice and still the same thing. I checked back several times hoping for a solutiom. Finally on the third time checking the rocker arms we could see a hairline crack in the sides of the rocker arm of the exhaust valve. After replacing a six dollar part the car runs great amd has for 2000 miles so far. Hope this helps someone and thanks to everyone and their sugestions we tried all of them.
