Default AC compressor is chirping

Hello all,

I have a chirping noise come from my AC compressor. Its not the belt slipping but chirping from the front plate at the AC unit. I've sprayed with some silicone lube and it was quiet for a couple of days, but now it's back. My question is how hard is it to replace the AC compressor, specifically how to evacuate the AC system. I heard you need to take it to a shop so the freon doesn't go into the atmosphere. Anything else I need to watch out for? Thanks all.. Will

well the compressor is held on by 4 bolts so replacing it isn't hard and if your not concerned about the environment you can vent the ac with the valve that comes out of the condenser but replacing the ac compressor is really expensive (new one is over 200 at Autozone) , probably whats going on is the clutch in your compressor is going bad and you'll have to replace that, to do that part is tricky and requires special tools so either one is costly. hope this helps a bit

as a precaution I would recommend snagging a belt for NON-A/C. Either put it on, or keep it behind the seat. My clutch went out on me and seized. The belt melted and that was it for me. Luckily, I was close to autozone.

I'm pretty sure releasing Freon into the environment is highly illegal, so make sure the hippies are far away if you undo anything.
