Default possibly wrong gap?

Been fighting a random misfire on cylinder 2 and sometimes others. I've tuned her up with some plugs wire and a coil, but it seems to come and go. The Del will come on and go off by itself. It has a 100% decrease in power. It sucks gas like crazy and you can smell gas from the exhaust. It hesitates and jumps and skips down the road. I bought pregrapped plugs and didn't check the gap... I kno I know :/ any ideas?

Fuel smell from the exhaust usually indicates a rich condition. Could be incomplete combustion.

Pull the plugs out and check the gap.

Also, what brand of plugs did you use? For some reason Rangers are pretty picky on the plugs you put in. Motorcraft and Autolite seem to be the only plugs that Rangers agree with.

well the smell and all only happens when the CEL is on. I used Bosche im almost certain. If it was an improper gapped plug could it make it come and go like that? Seems like everytime i crank her up she runs different.

what bout if they are autolites... and also would the plugs make it come and go like that?
like sometimes it will ride okay and sometimes it would ride like shit, CEL light comes and goes randomly and when it comes back it comes back as a different cylinder misfiring. rides alot worse when its really hot outside.

----------

pulled the plug wire off of cylinder 1 and it says xp and is white, so i am 99% sure theyre autolite xp....any other ideas?

Autolite and Motorcraft plugs are the same. Either will work fine. It could be a plug gap. It could be bad wires. It could be the coilpack.

ive replaced coil pack twice, and plug wires when i changed plugs... im thinking its something electrical because it comes and goes randomly and seems like everytime i crank it up it runs different

according to this my firing order was off. put it in that order and it still idles rough but idles at about 900-950 rpms as opposed to 700-800. will take it out on a test spin and see how the power is and all :> am still gonna check the gap though for that rough idle she has

.042 -.046 is the spec range for a 3.0.

I have heard of poor wiresets from the auto parts store, so if gap is alright may wanna ohm out each wire and see if they're within spec.
