Default Why, Why, Why

I have a 3.0 L v6 and get 450 to a tank. For a small engine and good driving this truck sucks on gas. I just don't understand why it uses so much. Just curious what is it being used up on. ( just a curious question ) . I love this truck and will never give it up because i know it will always be reliably and last.

If you get 450 miles on a 17 gallon tank, you RULE! Are you going downhill in both directions? I got the same engine in my Ranger and get just short of 300...and I am seriously trying to hyper-mile it. Are you talking about Kilometers?

He's in Canada. He is definately talking about kilometers. In which case, it sucks. Before my lift & tires, I was getting 600KM to a tank.

Quit bitching, I get like 150 max if that sometimes 165 miles and I fill up at Hal or a lil under a half. Lowest I let it get was 1/4 a tank and I think I was at like 180 maybe, I get 13.5 mpg

Why do 3.0's get horrible gas mileage? Two reasons that I see. OHV design, as well as lack of updated technology.

Ok, so I did the calculations. 450 Km is about 287 miles. A mix of street/highway, that is about 17 miles/gallon. That is about spot on with what a 3.0 V6 gets in the Ranger. Mind you, I have 255/55/18s on the truck. Same ride height, but more contact with the road.

I am NOT trying to say it's great or even mediocre. In fact, it's crap compared to what they could do. Top Gear UK: Clarkson drove a V6 Twin Turbo Jag from Basel to Blackpool on one tank of gas and averaged 45+ mpg. I get half that on the highway trying to do an eco-drive.

I agree it is lack of technology and OHV design but with all those factors at least it is realizable and will last.
