Default EGR question

I have a 97 ranger with 3.0 L. I got it from an old man about 2 years ago. It had about 45k miles on it. It now has 67.5k It has run rough since I got it. Thought it may have been old gas from sitting when he was not driving it. Replace plugs, wires, air and fuel filter. Code says its the EGR valve. Can I just put a blocking plate on it. Not sure if cleaning it is feasible. If I do put a plate on it after making one or buying one, what about the vacuum line? How do you terminate that? Will this effect performance? It sure idles rough, hesitates, sputters a lot now. I hope this is the problem Oh, I also replaced several rubber lines that looked dry rotted. Thanks, Craig cjhofmeyer@yaoo.com

Default Re: EGR question

depends on what it means by the egr valve it could be the vaccum solenoid or it could be the valve its self both are cheap to replace, i wouldn't recommend removing the egr valve because it prevents spark knock and it would be detrimental to ur fuel efficiency, egr valves are cheap i had to replace mine not to long ago its common for them to get clogged it only costs about 50$ to replace so relatively cheap
