Default 93 3.0 over heating problems!

Ok, I just took my Ranger off of the jack stands after repacing the clutch and exhaust and decided to take it for a drive.
Ive owned this truck since ive became a member but it has been a project in limbo for quite awhile since Im basically broke all of the time!lol
And im not an 18 yr old kid,Im 43 and barely working so im looking for the best fix!
When I took it for its first voyage the temp gauge in the dash went thru the roof!, And before I got it home the brand new clutch I just stuck in it was slipping!
I let it cool down for a few hours,and was able to stripe streets but it got very hot again and I was scared to drive it anymore.
Im thinking the grease I put on the shaft when reinststalling the tranny might be the culprit to my slipping clutch .
I just recently replaced the thermostat and flushed the system and it still gets hot?
After letting it get hot and checking that the original clutch fan doesnt lock up when hot I need to either replace the clutch in the fan or do what pooleo does and put a flex fan in?
For 15 bux im definately changing out water pump no matter what i do!
I need help! lol
