Default 3.0L Flex Fuel 6 cyl - tow capacity

I am not sure I am reading my manual right and need some help. I am thinking to add a tow bar @3500 lb tow capacity. It apprears my 2000Ranger Super Cab 4x2 3.0L Flex Fuel 6 cyl has a max tow cap of 2460 which means I should just stick with the bumber tow capability which has a max of 2000 lbs (right?). Am I reading this right?

Also, what does the read axle ratio mean and how do I interpret it.

I want to haul top soil and bark for my yard but not sure how to calculate 1) what I can put in my short bed and haul;, and 2) what I can put in my short bead + what I can tow on a trailer and 3) what I can haul in a trailer with nothing in the bed. The question is do I pay $199+ tax for a Tork Lift tow bar. I appreciate your help.

Howard

i would definetly get a 2 inch reciever for your truck, i think the max tongue weight (downward pressure on the rear bumper) is only about 300 pounds on you truck, i have the same thing cept mine's a 99, i don't know the exact numbers, but i can tell you i've had over 1000 pounds in the bed before and it had no problem with it, i have also towed my small trailer with it on the bumper, its about a 400 pound trailer and the snowmobile on it prob weighed 500 pounds for it was getting close to 1000 pounds and i didn't like the way it towed at all, braking and acceleration were fine but i felt like the suspension didn't like it at all, i also have a 1998 4x4 3.0 with a class III receiver on it, that truck towed a lot better than my 2wd

anyways, good luck with it, just be careful and don't push the limits of your truck

what you need to look at is the sticker on the door jam it will give you a GVWR. This is the total of the vehicle, driver, and all the stuff you can load on it + tow! remember the people that set the tow limits its not what the truck can hold or even pull ! its all about what the truck can stop and not over load the breaks. hope you keep this in mind and stay safe. good luck
