Default Oil leak on back of motor. Oil press sending unit?

I've had a real tough to find oil leak for a while now. It's appeared ever since I reinstalled the motor.

I'm now pretty sure its coming from the white round sensor that plugs into the back of the block on the pass. side. I guess that's the pressure sensor?

Is it common for them to leak? I'm guessing maybe it got bumped/broke when removing or installing the motor.

Looks like kind of a pain to get at to change..but at least it's a cheap part. Just cruious how it could leak. If it could only leak from the threads, I kinda doubt that's the cause - but if the plastic housing being cracked/broken could cause a bad oil leak - Then I could definitely imagine it being that I could have easily bumped it against the firewall removing/installing the motor.

You can see and access it through the PS wheel well with the splash shield repositioned. It is not common for the OP sending switch to leak on its own but I could see it leaking after being bumped.

Thanks..I appreciate it.

I've been losing a lot of oil since I changed the oil pan and had the motor out. New front and rear seals..New intake/head gaskets etc.. It just recently started puddling after parking the truck. For a while I figured it was burning the oil, since there was very little oil on the motor.

But looking back there with a flashlight, that's about the only place I can imagine it coming from.

I'll replace it in the next few days when I get a chance and I bet that'll fix it..

Hmm.. I took a closer look at it with a mirror, and it looks like it could be coming from the back of the lower intake manifold. I can't imagine that much leaking from there though..Can't imagine more than a weep from that spot - being that it's not really under and pressure.

Be sure to check the Synchronizer/CMP sensor under the rear of the upper intake to see if it is the source of the leak. The shaft inside the Synchronizer can get sloppy at higher miles causing the drive gears to fail. When they do, the engine oil pump will stop turning and that is never a good thing.

You know, this could have something to do with why they fail. If the sync assembly starts to leak oil where it mounts to the block, and not enough oil reaches the bearings, then there's the possibility of a lack of lubrication to the bearings, which then heat up and wear out, allowing the shaft to wobble. Of course, it could still be that it's just a poor design, but you never know.

It seems like it could be leaking there - and my cam sensor does rattle at certain times.
But I have trouble imagining that much oil leaking from there either - being that it's not a source of pressurized oil (it drives the pump, but oil doesnt flow into it - right?), and it's at the top of the motor.

My oil pressure gauge reads pressure at all times.

I don't know..I guess I gotta tear back into it all here sooner or later and figure it out. Even with a mirror, it's almost impossible to find a leak on the back of the motor like that. I'll probably replace the lower intake gaskets (again) just to be safe. Replace the sending unit, and the cam sensor.

The shaft rides within the housing, so there is definitely oil running through it.

I know on old cars with distributors - theres just an o-ring seal sealing that area. It's not under and pressure other than crankcase breathing pressure. So any leak from that would be pretty minor. But I don't know, maybe this is different.

I figured I'd update this thread because I just put on a new oil pressure sending unit. ($10) and the leak is still there. Only drove it a couple times, but the oil level is definitely down.

I think I'm just gonna wait until further into Fall and go ahead and redo the lower intake gasket and also put in a new cam sensor at the same time. That has to fix it..Theres no other place for oil to leak off the back of the motor.
