Default New oil pan and transmssion identifcation

I bought a truck at auction and it needs some work.

So I was poking at some rust on the bottom of the oil pan and now it is leaking pretty heavy. It looks like it has been leaking for a while; the whole bottom of the bell housing is covered. I was looking for other common places for leaks that may need fixed while I change the oil pan. The valve covers are bone dry and the top half of the bell housing is dry.

From reading other posts I know that the real main seals can be a problem, so my question is, if that was also leaking where would that oil be running down.

What is covered in oil is the pan, the bottom of the bell housing, the bottom of the starter, and the front of the inspection plate on the trans. I'm just trying to tell if the oil is all from the pan, or if I have multiple issues.

Attached are pics. Also, since I haven't driven the thing since I bought it, can anyone tell me if the trans is a 4 or 5 speed auto from the pic? I can't get a good look at the numbers on the side if it.

Thanks!

Dude, that is by far the most disgusting oil pan I have ever seen in my life.

Unfortunately it is impossible to tell for sue what trans that is just by looking at the pan, but since the truck is an 00 with a 3.0, then i'd say it's a 4R44E.

OK, so with it being a 4WD we just dropped the front diff a few inches and easily have plenty of clearance to drop the pan. We have all the bolts out and were trying to drop it and are stuck b/n the inspection plate (the large plate, I've taken off the small one of the pass side) and (I'm guessing) the oil pump. It will [I]almost[I] come out but gets bound up just at the bottom of the bellhousing. I'm not sure how stout the oil pump is if I try to just force it that little bit. That damn inspection plate is one piece and we considered taking the cut off wheel to it but can't cut it all the way across.
Any suggestions on clearing that plate and not breaking the oil pump?

Jack the motor up. You will have to take the nuts off the motor mount but it will make it easier to install a new pan also.
