Default v6 engine problems rough idle engine boggs

Hi our son has a 2002 ranger edge which is maintained pretty well.
It idle a little rough and it boggs down when accelerating.
This what we have found
Piston #6 is not firing properly
We have done an engine test and it shows at acceleration it boggs down at 3/4 of max torque or speed.
It will pick up about 30 sec or so later.
It totally died the other day and it started right up when the tow truck driver came.
we are a loss can anyone help
The recall issues are not fixed yet

we replaced
spark plugs and wires
checked timing
replaced fuel filter
checked fuel pump

the same thing happened to me, I have changed the coil pack as well. cylinder 6 kept misfiring after that and it was found to be a crack in the porcelain of the spark plug that was causing it to arc. took a few trys to get to the bottom of it. I have a 2002 v6 3.0 auto. Good luck to you

I got a rough idle too, but its only just slightly rough. I dont think I got a misfire, but maybe a loss of compression in one of the cylinders. I haven't looked at it becuase it still runs strong, gets good fuel mileage, and sounds strong.

I think I just solved a lot of problems that people in this forum are having. Stalling, missing, throwing codes, loss of power and Oil leaks.

I took my 2004 Ranger 3.0 down to Express Lube and had an oil change. Since then I noticed that my truck started running poorly. I was using more gas than normal. Idle speed went wild. Oil leaks, throwing codes and missing. Wow I thought the dam thing was falling apart.

I did a tune-up, installed a new Idle Control Valve, Cleaned the MAF, Plugs and Plug wires. then I started looking for the oil leak. I powered cleaned the sides of the engine to get rid of the oil so I could find where it was coming from. I took it out for a drive and came back only to find oil everyplace on both sides of the engine. It looked like it was coming form the Oil Filter. They cleaned things up a bit checked the filter and said all is well, you just have a leak at the oil sender. Went and got a sender and replaced that. Cleaned it up again with the power cleaner and ran it again. Got home and Oil was everyplace. Took it back to Express Lube. They gave me attitude but to make the crazy guy happy they put on a new filter and topped it off. Drove home, about a mile and the thing was soaked in oil again. DAM !

Today I power cleaned it again, went to O'Reilly"s and got a new WIX filter. I replaced the second Express lube filter. The first thing I noticed is that the WIX filter is a full size filter not the half quart filter that the Oil change companies have started using. Many companies are now making smaller filters claiming they have the same amount of filtering as the bigger ones. THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS--- THE SMALL HALF QUART FILTERS CAN NOT HANDLE THE OIL PRESSURE ! My engine was pumping so hard that it was blowing oil out under filter gasket I no longer am throwing codes. I no longer have an out of control Idle. I no longer have the dripping oil mess and best of all I have my old power and performance back.

Those small filters hold back the engine because they can't handle the needed volume of oil. It holds back the oil flow. The oil pump is working so hard that it hold back the engine. Lesson Learned.

Dump those little filters and get a full size one. IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR OIL CHANGED then take your own filter with you and don't use the little ones that the oil change companies sell. I highly recommend using WIX filters. They are the best. They cost around six bucks but you get what you pay for.

My ranger runs fine until i stop at the store and turn it off, Then when i get back i start it up and it runs like crap. I take off and it spits and sputter for like 30 seconds then it runs good. I can also start it up and hold the gas on 2000 RPM and it will start going up by its self to like 3500 RPM. I have no check engine light on. Any ideas?
