Has this guy never heard of a wet test? That will tell you if you need a complete rebuild or just to rework or replace the heads. I don`t understand how he could give you a price without knowing for sure what the problem is. What do you mean by replace two cyls.? What engine do you have?

Thats a pretty lame assumption. Because it has low compression he automatically says it needs cyl's? Heads are very common. Warped? Cracked? burnt valves? sucked valves?

You need head work, not cylinders. If something were up with your cylinders, you would hear it. You'd see it in the form of blue smoke too. The only thing that tends to go wrong with cylinders is rings.

Thats right, if your cylinders were done it would sound like a 1980s VW Diesel.

Check this place out. Pretty cheap for new heads.
https://www.alabamacylinderhead.com/

----------

I think I spent $180 per head on my 3.0 and $205 each for my 4.0. The 4.0 were new heads and the 3.0 were new valves.

first of all, run away from this shop as in now!! they could use a boroscope or any inspection camera device just by removing the sparkplugs to check for cracks on the cylinder, and also, they did not do the basic inspection for misfires, like check the fuel system, ignition system etc, these are the reasons i dont go on shops that i dont know anything about
