Default 2003 3.0 v6 pan gasket

My oil pan gasket is leaking on my 2003 ford ranger edge 2 wheel drive, it has the 3.0 v6, is this something that is easy to do?

I'd check all the pan bolts and make sure they're all tight and none are missing. And also make sure the gasket isn't pushing or being squeezed out/in.

To change it you more or less have to pull the motor.

It doesnt look like i would need to pull the engine, nothing is under the oil pan, just looks like i would need to remove the starter....

Unless your '03 Ranger is significantly different - It sounds like you need to do some research. Just do some searches on 3.0 oil pan on the forum and you'll find plenty of threads about it.

You can do it from underneath by unbolting the motor and jacking it. But after reading other people horror stories about doing that way, I just pulled the motor. Also allowed me to change the front and rear seals as well as the timing cover while I was at it.

With the suspension design of the Edge Rangers you can pull the pan right off. Nothing is in the way, except the starter.

If you had an XL or XLT 4x2 ranger you would have to pull the motor. Those two would have a coil spring set up while your Edge has a Torsion bar suspension, like a 4x4, even if its not.

Wow. You got lucky! That's for sure. Should be a real easy job in that case. Good luck with the project.

I know this is an older thread but I have the same engine in an Edge with the same problem. Derelict were you able to get the gasket changed without lifting the engine? Thanks, hopefully you are still monitoring this thread.

lol I remember reading this thread.

as long as you have an edge, the pan will drop. Just look under the truck, you will see.

so the pan drops easily without removing the oil pump? there is so much contradiction on what to do from removing the engine to that it drops right out on our edges 4x2s, I just want to know what im getting into...

You couldn't remove the oil pump without taking the pan off since the oil pump is inside the pan. The question is do you have to pull the engine to remove the pan.
