Default rpm limited by some computer chip

on my 2001 edge i cant get to the 6,000 rpm mark. it cuts me off at 5,500 which is a good thing so i wont blow a head gasket. but is it bad to get your motor up to the 4 to 5 thousands range to get up to speed. i have to mostly everyday where i live to get on the highway. or will it be ok? kinda stupid question but what do you think?

Nothing stupid about that.
My 02 was limited to 6200 from the factory, when I put the Jet chip in I was pleased to find it also had a 6200 limit, and even more pleased to find that the 91 mph limit was gone.
I have had it over 100 once to see if it would do it. Will probably not do that again unless it is absolutely called for.

You have no choice but to redline your truck to get up to speed?

hay i here you some times getting on the freeway can be hell ( 2.3 4l motor automatic) when you look in that mirror and see the big a$$ truck move up on you so you plow the peddle.
i dont think its great but it can handle it other wise ford would set the rev limits lower.
i dont get on unless i have a long on ramp and the room to get it to speed comfortably. but you dont always have that options

I know the feeling. The Merrit Parkway and Wilbur Cross Parkway in CT are like that too. The on-ramps are like 20ft long and have STOP SIGNS!? It is a disaster of engineering. The flow of traffic is about 80, there is no shoulder, no merge lane, and trees lining both sides. To get on the highway, you pull up to the stop sign, crank your neck around 180 degrees and watch for the next small gap in traffic. Then just as the last car is about to pass, you have to floor it and go from 0 to 80 in about 5 seconds or you get creamed.

There is usually quite a death count by the end of each year. Ether people crashing into eachother, hopping the median, or trees falling into the highway. Its really stupid.

My 4.0 rev's up to 6500 now since the tuner and it only sees that occasionally...

My truck sees 5800ish and full throttle at least 4 to 5 times a week. California drivers just suck and piss me off too much. Abuse? Maybe a bit. I use good oil and i keep my maintenance up and she keeps up just fine.

That 3k was just in neutral or park. All modern automatic Rangers and most if not all automatic cars from about 2000ish do that. That is there just in case you decide that you want to do a burnout so bad that you neutral drop it.
