Default Engine Help

Hi im new here and i hope someone might be able to help me out.
My father in law blew his engine and i took it and rebuilt it but now im not sure if i did something wrong. here is what its doing. it will start but it seems to burning coolent and an alarming rate. has brand new thermostate. its a v6 3liter 97 ford ranger pickup. also smoking like crazy. the smoke smells like coolent all sweet so any idea what this may be and what i may need to do to resolve it. if you need more info ask and i will tell you what i can. thanks ahead of time.

Thermostat has nothing to do with it. The head gasket is leaking. Profusely from the sound of it. Time to tear it apart and do it again the right way.

yeah sounds like the head gasket didnt seat... unless the block is cracked... but i doubt that by the sound of things. do a compression test on the cylinders.

i was thinking it was the head gasket. ya ill pull it apart again and see what i missed. the only reason i mentioned the thermostate cause i had to replace it due to it being shot. ill be sure to do it as you said "the right way" lol. thanks to the other guy for your help ill let ya know how it goes.
