The price of E85 needs to be at least 30% less then the price of regular for it to be worth it price wise. This is because ethanol has less BTUs per gallon which means the computer increases fuel flow rates, decreasing the air to fuel ratio.

In non-technical terms if the price of gasoline is 3.50 don't pay more then 2.59 for E85 and think you are saving.

It does burn a lot cleaner and theoretically gives a slight hp boost over E10 or pure gasoline. Also the exhaust smells better. haha

It can be mixed. Your fancy flex fuel composition sensor will tell the computer what's comin before it gets there.

Thanks Michael! I was actually having a discussion the other day regarding the use of gallons when purchasing fuel and calculating efficiencies. It was concluded that we should be using BTUs or kJ instead of gallons to make it easier to determine what is really the lowest cost fuel. This would be similar to the price per unit stickers in grocery stores.

Just keep in mind that your fuel mileage is going to drop, so you'll be buring more fuel. That will offset the less expensive price for the E85 and may not make it worth it. You might even out or it might end up costing more than using regular E10.

Ya thats the quandary of E85.

Pros:
- It is way less foreign oil
- It is american made
- It costs slightly less per gallon
- Fuck OPEC

Cons:
- It has less energy than gas (simple terms)
- Therefore you're MPG will drop significantly
- Therefore you end up buying more of the cheaper fuel
- Therefore financially, it often ends up costing more
