Default Replacement Motor?

I recently got offered a 2000 xlt stepside 4wd ranger for $500. the catch, it has a blown motor. The story is the oil pump went out on the 3.0 and it siezed up. i'd like to swap the engine as fast as possible so i'm thinking of just swapping in a different motor and not even trying to rebuild this one. so I'm wondering, what cars did ford put the 3.0 into? are all 3.0's the same as far as wiring and exhaust go? how much should i exspect to pay for a 3.0?

Thanks
Matt

That's one hell of a deal if the body and transmission are in good shape.

Being a 3.0, I'd imagine the cam synchronizer failed, which would explain why the oil pressure dropped and the engine seized. The Cam Sync will always go out before the oil pump. Basically, that motor is probably trash. Just find a similar year truck and swap the motor. Watch out for Flex Fuel and non Flex Fuel 3.0's though, the computers may be different. You can probably easily have this truck running for less than $1k if you know the right resources.

Hell, if you paid $500 for the truck, I would seriously consider a 4.0L swap with tranny/transfer case. It would be well worth it if the body's in great shape. I'd be willing to bet if you did the swap and sold it, you would more than double your money ($500+the swap). I'd look into it if I were you. THe engine would be a 4.0L SOHC, M50D auto tranny, and a BW transfer case.

If you do the regular maintenance on it, quite a long time. As for power, they are extrememly lacking.
