A/C compressor will not stay on
Model: Ranger XLT 2-wheel drive
The A/C compressor will not stay on.
Back story: I've had the truck for 3 years, and when I got the truck, the A/C did not work. It has not worked for the last 3 years now. I decided this week to see if I could get it working again.
I converted it from R12 to R132a, by installing the adapters on the low and high side lines. There wasn't any pressure in the lines, so there was no need to drain the system.
I added 12 oz of R132a, and the compressor started to kick on, but only stays on for about 5 seconds, and then shuts back off. It is on for 5 seconds, then off for 5 seconds. It does seem to be blowing cool air, but of course, it's not function properly.
I didn't add any more R132a, because the gauge reading is now in the red on the fill gauge.
It says if it is in the red, to seek professional help.
