Name that sound.

I have a 98 3.0 V6 that makes a knocking/slapping sound when revved passed, id say 2500 RPM. It sounds worst when hot and barley there when cold. Its coming from the left cylinder head it seems. Im ready to buy the heads or whatever other part it may be from the valve train.
I think its a valve or rocker, a friend thinks its a lifter?

sounds to me kinda like a rod knocking...

check your engine mounts,that same sound i hear on my sisters ford focus

Does any one have a clu as to what is the latest year engine that will bolt up to a 98 frame/?

I dont know really what it is. now the noise went from background to full out knock and no power. it drives though. prolly not for long.

So i found this PERFECT 01 4.0 ranger that the dude is willing to sell for 700. the thing is that they tried to steal it and the chip sensor for the key and most of the ignition was torn out.

do i have to use the computer for the 01 or can i just use my 98 computer.
If i do do this i will need all the help i can get. this is my only car and i use it to take the kids to school and such.

you can not use your computer from your 3.0 on the 4.0
